About the class

This Makers Week invites students to explore the intersection of jewellery & sound, challenging traditional boundaries with experimental design. Focusing on innovative approaches to materials, construction, and concept development, you'll experiment with sound-producing mechanisms and integrate them into wearable forms.

We'll look at different techniques such as resonance manipulation & integrating non-traditional material such as found objects or conductive elements. We'll push conceptual boundaries, considering what makes jewellery musical? How can movement, interaction, or the body itself become part of a sound-based design?

You'll gain skills in experimental prototyping, cross-disciplinary thinking, and sonic exploration, as well as increase your confidence using tools. By the end of the class, you'll leave with a finished piece of musical jewellery, a deeper understanding of material potential, and an expanded view of what jewellery can be—both visually and audibly.

There is a $15 materials pass for this class. This covers essential jewellery studio supplies, at the discretion of the Toi Kaiako.
