Suspicious Package/Bomb Threat

  • Do not touch suspicious parcels/packages. Gently lower to a level surface if already held

  • Remove everyone from the immediate area and do not re-enter until instructed

  • DO NOT activate building alarms or use electronic equipment such as cell phones

  • From a safe distance call campus maintenance on ext 9007 or 027 2634553. Advise the floor warden/on- site caretaker immediately, giving exact location and description of suspect package

  • Where a bomb threat is received via telephone, record as much detail as possible to pass on to authorities, then carry out procedures as above

  • Where a bomb threat is received via letter, don’t handle excessively. olding by the edge, place into a plastic evidence bag. Also, save any email threats. Record as much detail as possible to pass on to authorities, when and where received, by whom, and who handled the threat

  • Follow instructions from campus security regarding who will take control of the scene in conjunction with the New Zealand Police

  • Do not return to the building until the ‘all clear’ has been given
