TLC graduate Daniel Mills started painting murals in 1996. He studied at the Learning Connexion receiving his Diploma with Honours in 1999. “I benefited so much from my time at TLC, not just in the practical and technical learning, but also in the introduction to a large and ever expanding network of creative and supportive people. It’s a unique and positive place.”

TLC’s programmes are about engagement with the world and Dan is a great example of how our students apply this. Dan has spent many years, since completing his diploma, traveling the world, working prolifically as a mural painter and professional artist. As testament to his creative spirit, Dan has painted for his rent in many countries, from Cambodia to France and England.

Closer to home, you can see Dan’s distinctive style gracing walls and galleries from the far north to Wellington. His ability to apply his creativity skills within the community has seen him work extensively with the Hutt City Council and Hutt City Youth. Here he has undertaken ambitious mural projects around the Hutt City in a programme called ‘Art for Change’.

In 2007, Dan won the ‘Best Professional Mural’ Award for his mural in Waipu Cove as part of the Resene Paints Mural Masterpieces Competition.

These days his portfolio is massive. It’s a testimony to his passion and creativity that one artist has generated so much work, spanning such a large area.
