Stefano Tevaga - Exhibition

Preparing work for the exhibition proved to be quite strenuous. I kept changing my mind on how I wanted to present it, I finally settled on the presentation at the last minute and in the end I was really happy with the work.

My main objective of the work was to explore the qualities of hessian as a material; its status as a textile, the thickness, the weave and coil, its ability to retain its shape and how gravity affected it.

The exhibition week was great; there were many discussions about each other’s work and the students were given a chance to acknowledge and discuss each other’s work. Choosing spaces to present for our work for the exhibition was a negotiation. But once we had decided we all got to work preparing the show.

My mentor John had a good background to my work and the other tutors were fresh to the work, so the final critique was well balanced and I felt like they knew where I was coming from.

It took me a while to let go of my engrained knowledge and go back to the basics, but to get to this point was satisfying, the journey was a significant one. I felt like the week was a good way to end the programme.

The feedback to the work was positive. I found it interesting to see how people would relate to it and how they brought their own meaning to it.
