Character Design with Alan Poole (T2.36)
About the class
Pop-culture is full of character designs which aim to captivate and excite the public. Whether you are telling a story, creating a mascot, or advertising a product, creating a compelling look for your characters is key.
In this class we will cover the key principles behind character design in order to help students create fun and effective characters. These should be instantly recognisable, appeal to their target audience & capture the imagination!
We'll focus on:
- Silhouettes to create a recognisable shape
- Body posture and poses to convey personality
- The use of expressions to convey mood and emotion
- The difference between simple and iconic designs and more complex designs
- Key design tropes to use for your target audience
- How to play with these tropes and push them to create unique designs
This class will look at the main things to do, and the main things to avoid when creating your own unique character!
You're welcome to work in traditional or digital media in this class
