This October, The Learning Connexion (TLC) is opening its doors as part of the Lower Hutt Art Trail (Stop 12), inviting visitors to step inside our creative community and experience the energy of our working art studios.
Over the weekend of 17 – 18 October, visitors can explore TLC’s campus, wander through our studios and see our students working in their creative spaces. It’s an opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover the wide range of creative practices happening at TLC every day.
Meet the artists
Come and discover what makes our campus a Creative Gold experience! Wander through our studios, watch our student artists at work and chat about their creative practices, ideas and techniques.
You’ll be able to explore a range of creative disciplines across the campus, including Painting, Printmaking, Dry Media, Ceramics, Jewellery, and Digital Art.
It’s a chance to see works in progress, ask questions, discover new creative practices and get a feel for our welcoming creative community at TLC.
Take home a piece of TLC
Many of our student artists will also have work available to purchase, giving visitors the opportunity to take home an original artwork while directly supporting emerging artists and their creative practice.
Whether you’re an experienced art collector, looking for something unique, curious about studying art, or simply keen to see what goes on inside TLC, we’d love you to come along.
Artist Talks
Hear from our students, alumni Weekend Workshops tutors and TLC staff over the duration of the weekend, including:
Naomi Fuataga, Sian Simeon, Penny Wyatt, Callum Robertson, Liam Henderson, Sharon Hall, Grant Barriball, Carrie Burke and Jordan Harcourt-Hughes
Hear about their creative journeys, inspirations and ideas. Deaun will share their journey into art, and the influence of historical Korean art movements on their work. Carrie will explore her hands-on approach to art, experimenting with materials, transforming discarded objects and challenging our throwaway culture. Callum will dive into the world of zines, their history in Aotearoa, Wellington’s zine scene, and why these DIY publications are finding new relevance in today’s digital world.
We will have a Pop-Up Exhibition of our speakers work in the LAB Gallery.
Try out ScreenPrinting!
Visit our Printmaking studio where one of our students will show you the screen printing process. You can have a go and take away your own print!
Josh studied onsite at TLC and now continues his studies through our distance delivery programme. Josh returns to join us in the Printmaking studio, and will be giving demonstrations on screenprinting, both Saturday and Sunday.
The Lower Hutt Art Trail is a free community event featuring artists and creative spaces throughout Lower Hutt.
