Yes — you can complete any of our art courses and qualifications via Study from Home, with full support from your creativity kaiako (mentor), online resources, and peer discussion groups. See How to Study.
Can I study part time while working?
Absolutely. All programmes are available part-time or full-time. Many students fit their study around work or family life. You’ll just need to show regular, consistent engagement with your learning.
Do I need prior art experience?
No! Our Certificate in Creativity is ideal for beginners and people returning to study. You’ll explore different art forms and build a solid foundation in creativity.
What if I already have experience or previous study?
If you’ve already been creating or have studied art/design before, you may be able to enrol directly into our Diploma level programmes.
To do this, submit a portfolio showing your skills in at least three visual media (e.g. painting, drawing, sculpture), along with a brief written statement. Applicants for Diploma of Art & Creativity (Advanced) (Level 7) will also need to attend an interview. See more about Entry Requirements.
Do I need to buy materials for my art courses?
Yes — you’ll supply your own materials. Costs will vary depending on the media you choose to work in. If you’re budget-conscious, we can suggest more affordable creative options.
Can I take time off during my programme?
Unfortunately, you can’t pause your enrolment once started. However, the programmes are designed to be flexible — if you’re facing challenges, talk to Programme Support.
Can I try TLC before enrolling?
Yes! If space is available, you can attend Makers Week and Weekday Practical Classes as a casual student. We also offer Short Art Courses throughout the year.
How do I get to campus?
Our campus in Taitā, Lower Hutt is easy to reach — we’re just a short walk from Taitā Train Station, and close to major bus routes.
We also offer free onsite parking for students.
Whether you’re commuting from Wellington, the Hutt Valley, or further afield, getting to TLC is simple and stress-free.
What careers can this lead to?

Will I be part of a community?
Definitely. TLC students — both on-site and Study from Home — connect through our private Facebook group Sharespace, online group sessions, and student exhibitions. It’s a welcoming, supportive and inspiring creative network.
