Thursday (new day!) – Hot Arts Studio
Explore bronze casting and more in this open studio sculpture class.
This practical class will guide you through the process of designing and creating artwork with casting in mind, whether you have experience or you’re a complete beginner.
We’ll look at common and accessible materials, techniques and processes that can be applied to more than one discipline. For example cheap pieces of MDF and basic carving techniques that can be used to make wood blocks for printmaking, patterns for bronze sandcasting and sculptures or wall art in their own right. For those with previous works already in progress, support is available for you to complete and refine projects.
From mastering technical skills to bringing your creative vision to life, you’ll work in a supportive environment as you tackle each step of the process.
Your Toi Kaiako will guide you through the essential Health and Safety guidelines for keeping yourself and your workspace safe while working in this extraordinary discipline.
Class Materials
You will need:
- Suitable covered footwear and clothing are essential. We recommend protective cotton overalls and leather boots or shoes. Clothing made from natural fibres (cotton, wool, etc) is suitable – synthetic fibres melt
- Leather gloves if required
- Sculpting materials
- Other materials will depend on your projects – the TK will offer advice on what you need
