Lower Hutt Art Trail – 18 & 19 October
In October, TLC was once again proud to be part of the Lower Hutt Art Trail, with open studios, an exhibition in the LAB Gallery, and a lively weekend of activity.
Over two full days, hundreds of visitors explored our facilities and connected with the wide range of creative practices happening on site.

Highlights from the Art Trail Weekend:

Live demonstrations from our students across ceramics, printmaking, painting, and jewellery.
Open studios, where visitors could wander through working creative spaces and chat with kaiako and students.
LAB Gallery exhibition, from local artist Louis Mikaere.
The Art Trail gave new and returning visitors a genuine look into the depth of creativity happening at TLC every day, and many left feeling inspired to reconnect with their own creative journey.
TLC Open Day – 22 November
Just a few weeks later, our Open Day brought even more creative energy and community spirit to campus. With market stalls, artist talks, demonstrations, open studios, live music, and great local kai, the day was a celebration of everything TLC stands for: creativity, connection, and hands-on learning.
What Made Open Day Special:
- Studio demonstrations across multiple disciplines, offering visitors a chance to see creativity in action.
- Opportunities to meet kaiako and students, learn about our NZQA programmes and Short Courses, and ask study-related questions.
- A lively market space with beautiful, original artwork created by our students and graduates.
- An exhibition in the Gallery from our Level 7 Diploma in Creativity & Art (Advanced) students, highlighting the wide range of work produced by our learners in our creative community.
- Artist Talks from our Level 7 students.
- Food trucks and live music, adding to the festive, welcoming atmosphere.

The feedback from visitors was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the warmth of the community, the uniqueness of the facilities, and the inspiration they felt after exploring the studios.
A Creative Community Worth Celebrating

Both the October Art Trail and the November Open Day highlighted what makes The Learning Connexion so special – our people, our creative spaces, and the supportive environment that encourages everyone to explore their own creativity.
We’re grateful to all our students, kaiako, staff, stallholders, and community members who helped make both events such a success.
