About the class
During this Maker’s Week, you’ll design and create unique wearable and/or wall-based artworks using printmaking techniques such as lithography, mono printing, and optional sgraffito.
You start by creating small black-and-white drawings, then select your strongest designs to photocopy for use in the transfer process.
Using paper clay (chosen for its lightweight properties, making it ideal for both wearable and wall art) you’ll cut and shape flat forms that act as the surface for your work. Then you’ll explore how to create your own “ink” and use slips to produce mono prints.
Working with leather-hard clay, you can apply layers of coloured slip to add depth and visual interest before transferring your images onto the clay surface. To further enhance your designs, you’ll have the option to incorporate sgraffito techniques, carving into the surface to add texture, detail, and contrast.
This workshop offers a chance to experiment with materials and processes while creating unique, finished pieces that combine drawing, printmaking, and ceramics.
PLEASE NOTE: This class is suitable for students with experience in ceramics – see Nicky R or Programme Support for more info
