Prong, Claw & Basket Stone Setting | Term Two, 2024

Focus on stone setting techniques to assist in widening your breadth of jewellery skills and techniques.
Beginners, or students new to jewellery will start out with a simple project involving
a claw setting technique. This will advance onto more complex prong setting skills where you can continue to practice and get familiar with the tools and methods used for creating unique and stylish pieces of art jewellery.
Claw and prong settings are also a great way in which you can set found or odd shaped objects and stones, so bring along any stones or objects you may have that you feel you can realize and envision into a wearable piece.
More confident or advanced students will be expected to start on a basket setting project. This technique challenges your design considerations and works on strengthening your soldering skills.
Expect to learn lots and have fun making or starting projects that can take you into the remainder of the term.

Content

Experiment and play with a variety of stone setting methods. Learn how to create a design that incorporates both cut stones and found objects. Explore best soldering practices in a safe manner as well as how to bring your ideas together into a beautiful piece of jewellery.
We will discuss your design and you will receive feedback for the finished work.
Technique examples will be presented on the first morning and we will consider the possibilities and limitations of the techniques and our materials.
Please be on time as first demonstrations are held in the morning.
