Week 1

Monday 6th April: EASTER MONDAY

It’s Easter Monday, so we won’t have any classes running today. Feel free to check out our other activities!

Tuesday 7th April: CAMERA & KALEIDOSCOPE

In this fun, hands-on activity, our young artists will design and build their own simple pinhole camera with a built-in kaleidoscope! They’ll learn how light travels while exploring the science behind refraction and reflection!

Wednesday 8th April: GRAFFITI ART

Big colours, bold letters, and loads of style! In this session, children will explore graffiti-inspired art. They’ll experiment with creative lettering, symbols, borders, and vibrant colour blends to design their own street-art style artwork to take home and display.

Thursday 9th April: PINCH POT CLAY ANIMALS

Squish, pinch, and sculpt! In this hands-on activity, tamariki will learn how to shape clay using the pinch pot technique. They’ll transform their pots into fun animal creations by adding faces, tails, textures, and patterns. Once complete, their unique clay animals will be decorated with patterns and colour.

Friday 10th April: MĀORI WEAVING

Discover the art of weaving in a hands-on introduction to Māori raranga. Children will learn basic weaving techniques and simple patterns to create small woven pieces. They’ll explore ideas of connection, pattern, and tradition while making something special to take home.

Week 2

Monday 13th April: STAINED GLASS ART

Create a glowing stained-glass effect – no glass cutting needed! Your young artists will design their own picture, then paint onto a framed surface. With shiny foil as the backdrop, their artwork will shine and glow like a real stained-glass window.

Tuesday 14th April: PRINTMAKING ON TOTE BAGS

Turn a plain tote bag into a walking artwork! Children will design their own image, carve or stamp a simple print, and transfer it onto a fabric tote. They’ll explore colour, pattern, and texture while creating a reusable bag that’s perfect for books, sports gear, or holiday treasures.

Wednesday 15th April: PASIFIKA TAPA DESIGN

Celebrate Pacific-inspired design through texture and pattern. Children will look at traditional Pasifika tapa motifs, then stitch their own designs using wool and hessian fabric. This calming, creative activity builds fine motor skills while honouring Pacific arts and storytelling through pattern.

Thursday 16th April: COMIC BOOK ZINES

Calling all storytellers and doodlers!  In this activity, children will dream up their own characters, choose a genre (adventure, fantasy, mystery, superhero and more), and turn their ideas into a mini comic-book zine. They’ll learn basics of character design, settings, speech bubbles, and storytelling, then staple it all into a booklet to take home.

Friday 17th April: MECHANICAL HAND

Build your own moving mechanical hand! Using card, string, and simple mechanisms, your creative kids will create a mechanical hand that can bend and grab just like a real one. Along the way they’ll explore how joints work, practice problem-solving, and leave with a super-cool “robot” hand.

Our fun-filled school holiday art classes give young artists the chance to explore their imagination, experiment with different materials, and create their own masterpieces in a supportive and creative environment.

Whether they’re painting, sculpting, building or crafting, your children will enjoy making new friends and learning new skills with guidance from our experienced art tutors in our vibrant campus within our Kids space.

With a different activity every day, your young artists will stay engaged, inspired, and create fun projects alongside other young creatives!

Perfect for ages 5-13 years, this art class is a great way to keep young minds active and having fun during the school break.  Our Kids Holiday Programme runs from 9am-3pm and costs $65 per day per child.

Our Kids classes are held at The Learning Connexion, 182 Eastern Hutt Road, Taita, Lower Hutt. (We’re the vibrant campus behind Taita College!)
