Monday 6th July: STARRY NIGHT OF MATARIKI

Celebrate the magic of Matariki by creating your very own swirling nightscape inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night! Using pastels and rich textures, young artists will reimagine Aotearoa landscapes beneath glowing winter stars. This creative workshop encourages imagination, storytelling, and connection to the Matariki season through colour and movement. A perfect mix of art history, culture, and messy creative fun!

 

Tuesday 7th July: SOLAR SYSTEM HANGER

Blast off into space and design your own hanging solar system full of planets, astronauts, rockets, and cosmic surprises! Children will explore painting, construction, and imaginative design while creating a moving artwork to take home and display. Add quirky characters, alien worlds, or futuristic inventions – there are no limits in outer space!
A fun hands-on activity for curious creators and space explorers alike.

 

Wednesday 8th July: PRINT PARTY STENCIL ART & T-SHIRT PRINTING

Get creative with bold shapes, exciting patterns, and colourful stencil prints! Children will experiment with layering colours, designing their own stencils, and printing onto paper and fabric. Bring along a plain T-shirt to transform into a wearable artwork you can proudly show off at home. This playful printmaking session is packed with creativity, self-expression, and hands-on fun for all ages.

 

Thursday 9th July: WILD CREATIONS: TIN FOIL SCULPTURES

Twist, shape, and build amazing sculptures using tin foil, wire, and colourful plasticine! From animals and fantasy creatures to people, robots, and abstract inventions, this workshop is all about bringing big ideas to life in 3D form. Young artists will experiment with texture, balance, and form while strengthening their creative problem-solving skills. Expect lots of imaginative fun and wonderfully unique creations!

 

Friday 10th July: MATARIKI – NO CLASS

No classes running on Matariki.

Monday 13th July: MIXED MEDIA UNIVERSE

Step into an imaginary universe inspired by artist Wenzel Hablik, where nature, space, and creativity collide! Young artists will explore exciting mixed media techniques including splatter painting, shading, stencilling, layering, and composition to create their own dreamlike world. From floating cities to cosmic landscapes, every artwork will be completely unique. This expressive workshop encourages experimentation, imagination, and big creative thinking.

 

Tuesday 14th July: MATARIKI STAR GIFT BOXES

Celebrate the spirit of Matariki by creating thoughtful handmade gifts for loved ones and friends. Children will decorate beautiful star-themed gift boxes and fill them with special creations including bracelets, necklaces, handmade cards, and sparkling Matariki stars. This workshop focuses on kindness, gratitude, creativity, and the joy of giving during the Matariki season. A heartwarming day full of art, connection, and celebration.

 

Wednesday 15th July: AIR DRY CLAY ANIMAL PLAQUES

Bring your favourite animals to life using air dry clay and lots of imagination! Young artists will sculpt, shape, and decorate their own animal plaque while learning simple clay-building techniques and texture-making skills. From jungle animals and sea creatures to fantasy pets, every creation will be uniquely their own. A fun tactile workshop perfect for creative hands and animal lovers alike.

 

Thursday 16th July: TREE HOUSE

Design and build the ultimate dream treehouse using creativity, problem-solving, and imagination! Children will explore construction techniques while creating imaginative treehouse models complete with ladders, rooms, gardens, swings, and hidden surprises. Whether it’s a magical forest hideaway or a futuristic skyhouse, every build tells its own story. This hands-on activity is perfect for young inventors, builders, and dreamers.

 

Friday 17th July: SOCK MUPPETS

Turn ordinary socks into hilarious, quirky, and lovable puppet characters! Using colourful materials, fabric, buttons, wool, and craft treasures, children will design a puppet bursting with personality and creativity. Will your puppet be silly, magical, cheeky, or adventurous? This playful workshop encourages storytelling, imaginative play, and lots of laughter while creating a new puppet friend to take home.

Our fun-filled school holiday art classes give young artists the chance to explore their imagination, experiment with different materials, and create their own masterpieces in a supportive and creative environment.

Whether they’re painting, sculpting, building or crafting, your children will enjoy making new friends and learning new skills with guidance from our experienced art tutors in our vibrant campus within our Kids space.

With a different activity every day, your young artists will stay engaged, inspired, and create fun projects alongside other young creatives!

Perfect for ages 5-13 years, this art class is a great way to keep young minds active and having fun during the school break.  Our Kids Holiday Programme runs from 9am-3pm and costs $65 per day per child.

Our Kids classes are held at The Learning Connexion, 182 Eastern Hutt Road, Taita, Lower Hutt. (We’re the vibrant campus behind Taita College!)
As you drive up the drive take the second drive on the left towards the main carpark, and you’ll find our Kids space with native bush as the backdrop.
Separated from our adults’ classes in what was once known as Perry’s Cottage and renovated to bring our newest space to our youngest artists.  Our Kids space is fully fenced and includes an outdoor area.

Our school holiday art class is OSCAR approved, meaning that there are WINZ subsidies available if you need help meeting costs. Please visit Work and Income – Oscar Subsidy for more information.  Please note that OSCAR subsidy forms will need to be sent to us prior to the holiday programme starting, to ensure they can be processed.

Kids’ Holiday Programme and Children’s Art Classes: Terms & Conditions

All families must complete a registration form, enrolment agreement and safety form via Enrolmy before the child can participate in our Kids Art Holiday Programme, or our term time after school and homeschool art classes. It is the parent’s/caregiver’s responsibility to inform TLC of the child’s medical history and any other information necessary to provide proper care for your child. Please note that by registering your child with our Kids Art Programmes, you are also consenting to your child being transported, if needed, in an emergency.

Your booking is confirmed only once payment has been made.

Free Trials (available for after school and homeschool classes only)

You can book a free trial class for our term time after school and homeschool classes. Please note that booking a free trial does not guarantee a spot in the class. If you are certain you want to attend for the term, please book and pay for your child before the class fills up.

Belongings
TLC takes no responsibility for any loss or damage to children’s property while in our Kids’ Art Programmes.

Cancellation Policy
All classes need a minimum number to go ahead. Please note: Parents/Caregivers must give 24 hours notice if their child will not be attending booked sessions. Failure to do this will mean the full fee for days booked will still be charged. If a class is cancelled, we will let you know as soon as possible prior to the scheduled start date. If this happens, you may transfer to another available class, or you will be offered a credit, or a refund.

Privacy and Information Sharing
The information collected within this enrolment form is for the purposes of establishing and maintaining appropriate records required for The Learning Connexion (TLC) to provide our Kids Art Programmes. Information collected will be managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020, the Childrens Act 2014, The Children, Young Persons and their Families act 1989, and other relevant legislation. Information collected by us may be accessed by TLC staff, the Ministry of Social Development, relevant Government departments and other Audit organisations such as Te Kahui Kahu Social Services Accreditation. All personal information provided is kept confidential and is only accessible to our Kids Art Programme staff.  In the event that information is requested by an external party for audit purposes (e.g. in relation to OSCAR or health and safety requirements), all identifying information is redacted. You may view your child’s and family’s information at any time by accessing your account via your Enrolmy Parent Portal and you can directly correct or update any information on your account.
