Sculpting a Wall-mounted Figure | Term Four, 2020

Here is your chance to create a sculptural form using 'bas relief' techniques which can be mounted for indoor or outdoor display. Explore the possibilities from textured tiles to 3D wall mounted sculptures, then prepare your work for kiln safe firing, finishing techniques and mounting.
Suitable for beginners and students with some knowledge of clay.

* Basic hand building techniques
* Best practice guide lines
* Simple ways to add texture and interest to your work
* Learn to recognise shapes and lines, use depth and pressure to create a likeness
* Methods of mounting securely through weight distribution at the creation stage
* Make your work kiln safe
* Decorate without glazes

* Note - your work will need to be collected after the completion of classes as it will require adequate drying time before firing

  • Materials cost: $40 or $15 firing fee with your own clay. Cost to casual $180 plus $40 clay/firing fee.
    Casual Students: $90 per day + materials

Required Materials:
* Either...purchase a 10kg or 20kg bag of stoneware, or raku, or red terracotta clay for your own use. Please check with the TLC shop or other supplier on-line for current prices
* Allow approx $60-$85 plus a $15 firing fee
* Or... simply pay a class fee of $40 for 5kg clay and firing fee
* Extra may be purchased. No glazing required
