Innovate with Paint

Tutor: Gary Freemantle
Gary Freemantle is a painter who works in all paint media. His practice is multifaceted in style, interest and approach. He has exhibited in major public and private galleries throughout New Zealand and he also has experience in contemporary art gallery management and exhibition organisation. Gary is a very experienced tutor, and many students have found his classes to be transformative experiences.
Workshop Size: 10 (max number of students)
In this experimental painting class, we will be exploring new directions with paint. By avoiding the predictable we will be able to reveal aspects of your ability that have been unrealised. The way to innovate might necessitate changes and letting go of ingrained attitudes and expectations. Try something different to what you usually do and discover approaches that you never envisaged.
All levels of experience will find this class useful for evolving their painting further.
What materials will be needed?
- A quantity of acrylic paint: (Atelier or Reeves brand) medium yellow, deep red, (magenta or napthol crimson), phthalo blue, ultramarine blue, carbon black, titanium white, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber
- Brushes: Range of sizes from 6cm wide to medium to fine. Bristle brushes or synthetic hair ok
- Supports: Hardboard panels, canvas boards, or heavy paper. We will be working mostly on paper, some will be provided
- Bring pen, pencils and drawing pad
- Bring a packed lunch.
