Birgit Moffatt is a German practicing artist, who has called New Zealand/Aotearoa her new home since moving here in 2011. Coming to New Zealand was not only a change in culture, location and lifestyle but also the beginning of her creative adventure that eventually led to an artistic career path.
In 2017 she received a Bachelor of Applied Arts majoring in Textiles. Birgit is currently working out of her studio where she creates art for galleries and exhibitions and also frequently runs workshops.
Class Size: 6 (max number of students)
People who attend Birgit's two-day Harakeke Weaving workshop will finish at least two projects; one basket (kono) and one envelope (konae). “We will cover tīkanga related to working with harakeke and you'll learn the whole process from preparing harakeke through to the finished work,” says Birgit. The class is suitable for beginners with little or no previous weaving experience.
What materials will be needed?
Students only need to bring an old towel and a camera or phone for taking photos. All other materials will be supplied by the tutor.
