An Evening with Clay | Term Three, 2019

Have you ever wanted to have a go with the most fundamental medium on the planet? Here is your chance to create your own vessels and sculptural forms using clay. Learn some simple hand building techniques which will enable you to construct vessels and sculptures easily.
This fun filled class is suitable for beginners and students with some knowledge of clay.

Content

* Basic hand building techniques
* Best practice guidelines
* A selection of simple ways to add interesting surfaces using colour and texture to enhance your work
* Basic glazing techniques
* Learning and understanding clay vocabulary

Objectives

* Gain a working knowledge of clay
* Follow best practice guidelines
* Create a variety of work using the techniques taught at this class to develop your own ideas
* Learn what not to do with clay
* Completed work at the end of term
* Note - some works may need to be collected after the completion of the classes as these will require adequate drying time before firing

Outcomes

* Gain a basic knowledge of working with clay
* Follow best practice guidelines
* Create a variety of works using the techniques learnt in this class
* Develop and extend your own understanding of your personal aesthetics and how this relates to vessels and sculptural work created with clay
* Completed work at the end of term

  • 6:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Materials cost: $55 for 5kg of a variety of clays, glazes and the firing of your work. Or, you can purchase your preferred clay in larger amounts. Please check the school shop for the latest price list. A firing fee applies for those with their own clay.
    Casual Students: $265.00 + materials

  • 10 (Max number of students)
Required Materials:
* EITHER - purchase a 10-20 kg bag of raku or stoneware clay for your own use. Please check with the TLC shop or other supplier online for current prices. Allow approx. $49-$58 plus a fee of $30 for firing and basic glazes
* OR, simply pay a class fee of $55 for 5kg of clay, basic glazes, and firing of your work. (extra clay may be purchased if required)
