Diploma of Art and Creativity (Advanced) Level 7

(NZQA Level 7) 120 credits

Programme Overview

The Diploma of Art & Creativity (Advanced) is a natural progression from the Level 6 Diploma of Creativity programme. It builds on students’ existing creative practice, working towards the development of a sustainable professional practice.

Students will produce a body of experimental work for shared discussion. These experimental works are designed to become part of a public showing in a forum that suits each student’s practice. The body of work prepared should have coherent and consistent themes.

Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of what is involved in being a practising creative in the discipline of their choice.

Programme requirements will be met naturally during the course of the programme and progress will be reviewed at regular intervals during the programme.

Approach:

At Level 7, study will comprise a mix of independent study, mentor engagement and peer to peer discussion.

The mentor supports students to use creative processes to continue to develop their personal practice.

It’s an opportunity to work with the mentor to draw together previous creative experiences to realise each student's innate motivations. Students are supported in this in an encouraging, inclusive and reflective environment, both one-to-one and in groups.

In depth research will enable students to push their own boundaries through making their own work, and exploring the work and worlds of other practitioners.

Programme schedule:

There are currently two student intakes; one in Term 1, and the other in Term 3.

Group Zoom sessions are held once a week. Students will be told which session they will join when they start their programme. These Zoom sessions usually take one hour (sometimes a bit more) and start at 10.15am. It is expected that students attend these sessions, as they are an essential part of the programme.

One-to-one Zoom sessions with a mentor are held once a month.

Full-time students: 30 hours of study is required per week. Part-time students: 15 hours of study is required per week. This includes group and individual Zoom sessions, research and studio time.

Admin/Uploading work/Paperwork:

Interview: All students will be interviewed as a part of the enrolment process.

Creative Plan:  At the beginning of their study, students will outline how they intend to meet programme requirements.

Progress Checks: Students will have progress checks every six months during their programme. The purpose of these is to give an idea of progress to date and to update the Creative Plan.

Workroom: Images are to be uploaded to the Workroom once a fortnight.

Presentations:  Every 2nd term (or 4th term for part-timers) students will be asked to make a presentation to the Zoom group about their work.
