About the class
Foldforming … transform flat sheet metal into dynamic, sculptural jewellery by folding, hammering and unfolding …
In this workshop you’ll learn how to manipulate copper and other non-ferrous metals using traditional metalsmithing tools and techniques. We emphasise experimentation, understanding how metal moves, and developing individual design approaches while producing wearable jewellery pieces.
By the end of the course you’ll…
* Understand the principles and creative potential of foldforming
* Be able to fold, hammer, and unfold sheet metal to create sculptural forms
* Gain confidence using basic jewellery-making tools and techniques
* Understand metal behaviour including work-hardening and annealing
* Apply finishing techniques to refine and present jewellery pieces
* Develop design awareness when working with formed metal shapes

Where?
Jewellery Studio
Materials Pass
There is a $20 materials pass for this class.
This covers essential jewellery studio consumables (at the discretion of the Toi Kaiako / Tutor) and three sheets of copper.
What you need to bring
- Your own metals – silver, brass or copper (3 sheets of copper will be included in your Materials Pass)
- Your own riveting hammer if you have one
