The Music of Judgment Tavern

The Learning Connexion has a history with supporting independent film projects, and this short film project - Judgment Tavern involved TLC staff, students and graduates.

Last year our production company, Useful Media received the highest bracket of short film funding available through the New Zealand Film Commission, to bring to life a story about a young girl carrying her fathers living head in search for his body.

There were many challenges involved in this ambitious project, including building a medieval Tavern inside Avalon Studio in Lower Hutt. We pulled it off with an amazing art department crew which included some Learning Connexion students. As a result of this work experience, one of these students has been employed as a brush hand on Stone Street Studio's next big feature, Ghost in the Shell.

We have now finished the short film and are in the process of finalising our release plan to international film festivals and then the NZ Film Festival next year.

The score was composed by Tane Upjohn-Beatson, and this four minute video is about how Tane worked to provide the emotional punch that the film depends on.
