Ideas, People, Sharing.
These are the three words I would use to describe my experience of the Creativity Challenge at Taita College this past weekend.
My role was photographer for the weekend; because of the coverage needed, I think I got the biggest overall impression of the event.
It started on Friday afternoon with a Powhiri led by Trevor Moeke and Simon Hirini with a Karanga and a warm welcome from Taita College students. Trevor then presented an impressive Koha for Jonathan and Alice - a beautifully carved Po which remained in the hall throughout the duration of the conference.
We had a great turn out and for some of the international visitors, it was the first time experiencing the Maori greeting called the Hongi.
The theme was ‘Creativity crosses boundaries’ and the calibre of presenters was impressive.
The presenters were all hitting the topic of creativity from different angles, but all agreeing on one thing...
Creativity has an important part to play across all fields - science, education, culture, environment, business, technology and workplace culture, to name a few.
The workshops were more hands-on and mostly held in classrooms and I walked into a few interesting scenarios, theatrical antics, fun with corrugated card and lots of emphasis on play.
