The Learning Connexion School of Creativity and Art is celebrating the season of new beginnings in their latest student exhibition Spring Forward.

Spring is the season of new beginnings. Fresh buds bloom, warm sunlight awakens the senses and the earth seems to come to life again.

The disruption and uncertainty of Covid-19 restrictions meant the school, which is based in Lower Hutt, had to adapt to new approaches quickly, with the two most recent end-of-term exhibitions both held online.

“Staging an art exhibition online is not ideal,” says Johannes Mueller-Welschof, Community Liaison Facilitator at The Learning Connexion (TLC). “Although our students showed remarkable resilience and adaptability during lockdown, and shared some amazing work, there is nothing quite like a real-life exhibition – because art is always more than meets the eye.”

This term, TLC is springing back to life – and returning to normal with a return to an exhibition staged entirely on campus, following Level 2 guidlenes.

Spring is a season of senses, and more than one sense is involved in creating and experiencing art. With our end-of-term exhibition back onsite, we want to create an experience that involves all those senses – from the excitement of set up, through to the buzz on opening night where you get to be among artists and see the work up close.”

With over a hundred works of art from TLC’s onsite and distance delivery students, the exhibition presents a diverse collection from across the creative disciplines, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, illustration and photography.

“TLC has a proud history of developing artists who think outside the block, and take creative risks. If you love art you don’t want to miss this. If you are curious about what TLC has to offer, and how we could help with your own creative journey, then this is the time to visit our campus,” says Johannes.

Spring Forward opens on the evening of Thursday 17 September at TLC’s campus in Taita, Lower Hutt.
