Student Profile- A whole new chapter

From ceramics to jewellery and lots in between, Gemma Goodwin’s art journey has encompassed a good deal of exploration and challenge as well as bursts of originality and flair. Study at The Learning Connexion has ‘opened up a whole new chapter’ of Gemma’s creative journey- going from 2D to 3D.

Gemma web

Gemma is a full-time, on-site student here at the Taita campus and as she puts it, it’s "safe to say I’ve made the most of my time here so far!"

The on-site community is a big drawcard for Gemma - she likes the way that students can bounce ideas off one another and, as a hoarder of ‘things’, that she can study alongside "like-minded people that you can relate to."

GEMMA GOODWIN WORK1 WEB

She values the contact and the input that she has from the tutors and their wealth of knowledge and feels that "as artists themselves, they can connect, and can relate very much to us [students], as emerging artists."  She feels that through the tutoring process, the tutors "guide and challenge us in a positive way."

She has found aspects of her study challenging so far - working with different materials, and turning some of the fails into a positive; learning from the experience.  A mum of two, full-time study has also presented its own unique challenges - juggling study with family commitments, sick kids and so on. However she has found that between having great family support and the flexibility offered by The Learning Connexion through options to work from home, it works well for her.

And what would she say to someone thinking of studying here? “This is a great opportunity to get you out of your comfort zone, and get you out there into a creative art world! The facilities are fantastic, the tutors brilliant!"
