Wellington artist and TLC tutor Dan Wilkinson is celebrating 20 years of creativity by featuring both old and new work in a retrospective exhibition at the Walrus Gallery in Wellington.
“At the start of 1999 I embarked on a creative journey at The Learning Connexion. I had no idea where it would lead,” says Dan, who teaches drawing at TLC.
Dan had his first Wellington exhibition in September of that year, and 20 years on, he will be reflecting on his creative journey so far.
“On display will be new works and selected works from collections and personal archives.”
Dan works from a studio on Wellington's rugged South Coast, and says references to this landscape are notable throughout his new work. "I’m interested in stripping back the land and capturing what is unseen, what makes it so powerful."
A popular tutor at TLC, Dan says he enjoys watching students progress and develop at their own pace. “I like to create an environment where students can express who they are, as well as what they see and feel.”
Dan's own work mirrors his teaching style; he is constantly evolving as he explores surface and media to satisfy his creative needs.
