The Learning Connexion (TLC) is an extraordinary entrepreneurial venture which combines holistic education and commercial development. TLC is a 30 year old company employing over 50 staff and teaching approximately 700 students across New Zealand and around the world. Our distance delivery system offers national and international students the same quality of provision as is received by those on-site.
Jonathan Milne, as TLC’s founder and Managing Director, leads a group of dedicated staff to make TLC New Zealand’s only education provider fully dedicated to teaching creativity processes. Jonathan’s book, ‘GO! The Art of Change‘, ‘provides an inspired roadmap for anyone ready to explore new territories of the imagination, whether in work, play or life.’ (Robert and Michelle Root Bernstein).
Creativity offers multi-directional possibilities. It thrives on change and uncertainty. At TLC individual creativity is encouraged within a social learning context, deepening our understanding of responsibility to ourselves, to others, and to the world we live in.
TLC students express their creativity through art. This assists them to discover their core motivation.
Working with low institutional hierarchy in a congenial atmosphere encourages deep learning throughout the company. Appreciative critique nurtures creativity outputs and supports well-being, confidence and entrepreneurial thinking.
Creativity precedes innovation. We designed TLC’s organisation ecology and Learning Management System to meet our own needs. Development of video resources for distance learners began in the early ‘90s. We have New Zealand’s largest library of creativity videos. TLC developed its own teaching foundry, metal fabrication, print making, jewellery and ceramics studios and a wide variety of 2D and moving image studios.
Aotearoa is part of the Pacific Rim. We welcome the participation of people from throughout the Pacific and the rest of the world to help us continue to develop the programmes we offer.
Our country has a history of nurturing people to become world leaders. Our vision for TLC is to be a world leader for creativity incubators - innovative centres of learning, working with the medium of art to accommodate all aspects of research.
All of us at TLC appreciate your participation in creativity. We are assisting New Zealand to discover its future.
