I remember a little watercolour paint box, scrubbing at the blocks of paint to try and get some density of hue. Rudolph Steiner school's insistence on pastel colours and no black. (I don’t use much black but restrictions annoy me.) I remember the excitement of walking into my first 'life' drawing class in Paris, feeling like a real artist – the models were made of plaster! Later, art tuition came through courses, some extramurally, leading to exhibitions and teaching, tutoring and writing reviews, book illustrations and magazine work.
Life happened hugely. Then came a time when I wanted to stop the world I was in. I found an art school that suited my philosophy, where creativity and individual development were encouraged. Now I teach, learn, and enjoy and I’m not disillusioned.
