Profile

The Learning Connexion nurtures sustainable creativity. We offer a Diploma of Art and Creativity - a course which assists our students to make creativity a way of life.

Art is a huge field - ranging from ancient skills of stone carving and bronze casting through to state-of-the-art computer applications in graphic design, photography and videography. If you want art skills we have more than 50 tutors who can make a difference.

Creativity is an even bigger field than art - it embraces every area in which innovation and fresh ideas are required. In a sense creativity is the driving force of the universe. Nature is prolifically creative and we are part of nature. Things evolve in nature because they find increasingly complex ways to interact and develop.

What we've done at The Learning Connexion is to build revolution into the very way we work. From day one we set up feedback loops which help you to discover how your art is working. We encourage students to test their work in the wider world to discover how people are responding.

Our inspiration comes from the joy of seeing people get exciting results.

Visa and Permit Requirements

Application for your student visa should be undertaken once your place on the course has been confirmed to you in writing. You may initiate this process with the New Zealand Immigration Services, via their website http://www.immigration.govt.nz/study, or by contacting New Zealand Embassies or High Commissions.

» Visa: gives you permission to land and travel in NZ

A student Visa or permit means a student can study in NZ for a set time at a specified institution as a full time student. In most cases it would be issued for one year, and the permit would be renewable. You must have a current student visa for enrolment at each stage of the course.

Once students arrive in NZ with a Student visa, Immigration will issue a Student Permit which is needed for a course lasting three months or more. For courses less than 3 months, only a visitor's visa is needed. It is the permit that gives you permission to be in NZ and states the date your permit will expire and any other conditions.

» Work

Full Time Student: 20 hours a week.

However, if you are in New Zealand on a Work or Visitor's Permit and wish to study full-time for more than three months, you will need to apply for a student permit. You can do this at any time before your current permit expires.

» Who needs a visa?

Most International students will need a permit that sets out the conditions of their stay here. You don't need a visa/permit if you are a resident or citizen of NZ or an Australian citizen or Australian resident who holds a current Resident Return Visa.

In the case of overseas policy providers students must provide The Learning Connexion with the policy details in English before the payment of fees to The Learning Connexion.

This certificate must show your policy number, the insurance cover start date and end date (until at least the expiry date of your student permit and/or enrolment end date, whichever is later). This proof of insurance must be received at TLC no later than two (2) weeks before classes start.

The policy wording must also detail medical sums insured, repatriation benefits etc. Without appropriate insurance you will not be able to enrol This is a New Zealand Government requirement as stated in the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.

You can pay your Tuition Fees by credit card, cheque or bank transfer. All funds are protected under the Student Fee Indemnification requirements overseen by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

» Cost of materials

Some of the materials are supplied as part of the course but most students find that they need additional materials. This depends on the type and scale of work you choose to do. Withdrawals, Refunds, Student Fee Protection and Student Fee Indemnification

A student may withdraw from a course within the first eight days after the commencement of the course and receive a full refund of fees paid.

After the eighth day (i.e. from day nine), there is no refund. Students must apply in writing to withdraw from the course.

Onsite students should contact Programme Support staff to assist them in the process. EM students should contact the EM department for assistance.

The Qualifications Authority (NZQA) requires that a PTE has arrangements in place to protect student fees in a course closure event. The Learning Connexion's Trust Account also protects students' fees in the situation should a course closure event occur.

Course closure events are events outside of a student's control, such as a cancellation of a course, the withdrawal of accreditation or course approval by the Qualifications Authority.

In the situation of a course cancellation, the student will receive a full refund.

The Accounts Department of The Learning Connexion will arrange for the refund. The person to contact is Raewyn Wilks - phone +64 4 5860320. Raewyn Wilks will also be the first point of contact for students, should any other course closure event occur.

The Learning Connexion adheres to section 236A of the Education Act 1989 and subsequent amendments. It has an approved Trust Account for Student Fee protection and Student Fee Indemnification (the remaining portion of a student's fee at any point of the course).

The Trust Account is sufficient to cover the full amount of student fees. It is administered by Mr J McKee at McKee & Paino.
